STAR GUEST: ARKBISHOP

Please tell us about yourself?
My name is Olamide Akinmolayan AKA ARKBISHOP, A GRADUATE of English from Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko Ondo state. A poet, on air personality (an independent presenter) a stand up comedian, actor and singer. I call myself a one man industry.

What made you chose the Comic that you are doing now?
I didn’t choose comedy, comedy chose me. A man is filled with so many gifts and comedy is just one of those many gifts the almighty gave me. Inside of me,I know I still have more gifts I am yet to discover. I was born into a home of talent. My dad is a good orator,my mum a talented dancer and my siblings got theirs too. So what I got today is in born.

Tell us more about your typical day
My day is filled with what I like to do most…shooting…editing video (learnt video editing and television production at Xclusive to Divinity) then I over see my little business and making myself useful.

What do you think of todays' trends in the comic world?
Depends on the comedian but my own trend is the everyday man and happening. Sometimes I try see the future like have you wondered how Nigerians will conduct wedding in 2035?

What do you do when you are not doing what you regularly do?
My life revolves around my work so I can call myself a workaholic. Apart from comedy I do some little business here and there. I am also a video editor.so I tell you, there are lots of work to be done. Working on my album “The Chronicles of Arkbishop” a video comedy/music album slated to come out later this year.this too takes time to work on. So ko si ere ni moscow.

Tell us about the best part of your work?
The best part of my work is when I can make my clients happy. I tell you. I have made lots of friends and contacts through this passion (I hate to call it a work). My joy is when I hold the microphone and people are blessed. There was a time a guy told me my jokes healed his relationship. Cant explain that though.

How/where do you see yourself/your work in next 3/5 years from now?
Well, life is in the hand of Olodumare. But as a man full of dreams I see the Arkbishop brand travelling far and wide. We at house of talk (the over all umberella I work with) are working with other good hands to see this will happen with GOD on our side.

Who is your inspiration/role model?
Won po gan o. I am inspired by Lagbaja’s humility, love Amitabh Bachchan’s works and life. I study the work of SWEET STEVE Too and Bovi and Basket Mouth are outstanding. I Also get inspired with the work of Kevin Hart and Chris Rock. Those guys are good.

What is your favorite holiday spot/food/gadget?
Hustler dey get holiday? My holiday is when I am sleeping. I love good food cooked by my family or my fiancĂ© and gadget gosh I love loud and ‘pounding music’ so I like to listen to my Lagbaja, Fela, Barrister, Enya or Yanni loud and pounding. I love hanging out with the few friends I have. Playing play stations and teasing each other. Maybe when I get there sha I ll make sure I visit India and the united state.

What is your next project?
Working on my comedy album “The Chronicles of Arkbishop”

Is it true that all comics had miserable childhoods?
I wont call it miserable but most of us had it rough while growing up. Some can lie about it but mine was kinda rough. You sef imagine growing up on the streets of Agege.

It is also been said that Comics have inferiority complexes? True or False?
Say wetin happen now? That is false o.i have never worked under anyone before since I finished from the university and I tell you I am cool with myself so wetin they bring complex now? I chop winch?
How do you get along with your Sibling?
The question should be how is the competition with my siblings? Those guys are up and doing and I am the only son so I have to always upgrade to be ahead, I told you my house is “Akinmolayan house of Talent”. But we all getting along fine. I don’t have a brother so when I was living with them I was the man “man of the house”. My dad don’t stay around much so while growing up,I was gthe daddy. Though as a sanguine I am not bossy but I still enjoy that only son palava.

What’s this year’s political scandal?
I am not a politician o but from the comic point of view everything about the Nigerian politics is scandalous. From the federal level to street level. Imagine a country where money and human being are getting missing like it is a normal business. Naija like Fela said is “look and laugh” my brother.

Which public figure makes your job as a comic easier?
I do lots of hon Patrick Obahiagbon’s grammar and I am a big ‘fan’ of the first lady

Does all comedy spring from the truth?
Not all o…a comedian’s imagination is next to nothing.

Do you ever get stage fright?
I call it more of anxiety than fright. Imagine a gathering you ll be addressing figures you see on television only for them to be sitting in your presence to make them laugh. My brother, the butterflies in your belly ll rise o.i have been privileged to stand before kings and not mere men… a man diligent in his work but I am never frightened sha.

How do you deal with telling a hit joke?
Serious I don’t plan or cram jokes. I just let it flow. Though I have my popular demand materials

Share your worst stage experience
You wont believe it…God has been faithful…even when I was ill I sha ll see something talk…my brother there is God o.

Tell us about “ An Ode”; and the response you have gotten so far?
I wrote ‘an ode” as appreciation to the almighty God. The song is just an appreciation. The response has been good so far and we just shot the video. We intend to release it soon.

What is your favorite genre of music/movie?
Musically I am funny…I love gothic or celtic songs. I love hymns and I do lot of oldies. Then I am the craziest fan of Lagbaja living.  I see any good movie.

What do you think about this blog?
This blog is a sensation. Owned by a youth not waiting for the government to bring job, I see this blog going places. Quote me.

Any final words?
Be good, be humble and be creative. Let the world remember you for something good when you gone.
